To place a filling, our dentists will first use a drill, air abrasion instrument, or laser to remove the decayed area. Then the area is probed to ensure that all of the decay has been removed. The area will be cleaned of bacteria and debris. Composite fillings, or tooth-colored fillings, are applied in layers. A special light is used to cure and harden each layer as it is applied. After the layers are all applied, our dentists will shape the composite filling as needed, trim off excess material, and polish the restoration.
